The disability sector is in crisis. ASU members stand alongside advocates from People with Disability Australia, Australian Unions and service providers at Parliament House seeking support for the disability sector.
The sector needs urgent support from the Commonwealth Government so that essential services can continue and be delivered safely.
We need:
- Free and accessible PPE including masks and rapid antigen tests
- Paid isolation leave, so workers can isolate without losing income
- Workforce retention payments
Shadow NDIS Minister Bill Shorten said
"Today, advocates, participants, workers, unions and providers are all here united. Ringing the bell and demanding a response- support for the disability sector.
People with disability have been in lockdown since March 2020. The government should be putting them at the front of the queue.”
“One quarter of our workforce have had to isolate because of covid. You just run out of workers. People working 24 hour shifts. Workers have gone above and beyond- but they are just exhausted. Our cries for support are falling on deaf ears” Andrew Richardson @arumaservices CEO. pic.twitter.com/18gDk66rmr

You can take action too, by signing the petition for Paid Isolation Leave for all workers.
