Bill Shorten has just announced that he backs the ASU plan for better training for NDIS workers.
Our plan involves:
- Free induction courses, free certificate III and FREE ongoing professional development for all NDIS workers,
- No course costs, AND being paid for your time to complete your study so you don’t have to choose between a shift or further training to gain specialisation and career path in the NDIS,
- It will apply to ALL NDIS workers and for all of your NDIS work – whether you work for multiple employers or as a sole trader.
The announcement today by Bill Shorten is that if elected on May 18 Labor would fund a trial of the ASU NDIS plan in 3 areas to start this year – Perth, Canberra and Townsville. Workers, people with a disability and providers will be involved in the trial to see how it can be expanded quickly across the whole country for all workers.
This is a fantastic announcement by Australian Labor, and it is thanks to the tireless efforts of ASU members campaigning for a better NDIS that this has happened today.
ASU members have held meetings in their workplaces and across their regions calling for this. ASU members have lobbied politicians and rallied on the streets.
